Hurricane Disaster Images: Miami 1926 [Miami, USA]
June has arrived and for us in the tropics, that can only mean one thing: hurricanes! The National Geographic News reports that fewer hurricanes are predicted this time around, only six Atlantic hurricanes – and that this year things should be “relatively quiet” – (now there’s an oxymoron in the making). The Miami Herald dug into its archives to remind all of the grim path of destruction that just one of these forces of nature wreaked in 1926. I wonder what the generations after us will think of the Hurricane Katrina galleries of the future.
More photos of that hurricane have been posted here by Florida Memory: the State Library and Archives of Florida.
